Rise and Decline of Industry in Central and Eastern Europe
Bernhard Mnller, Bernhard Müller, Maros Finka, Gerd Lintz
In the course of the tremendous political and economic upheavals starting in 1989/1990 many industrial cities and regions in Central and Eastern Europe were confronted with far-reaching socio-economic problems. This book presents eleven datailed national reports about the situation in such cities and regions and the strategies which have been employed there to cope with structural change. The country reports are complemented by brief case studies of selected cities and regions. An introduction to the specific background regarding e.g. structural change, the countries concerned and EU enlargement is given, and comparative conclusions are drawn as well as recommendations for future policy are presented.
