Johnny Cash - Guitar Play-Along Vol. 115 (Bk/CD)
Johnny Cash
This is the fourth Hal Leonard play a long I have bought and they are great for practicing with songs you love. In this edition, was hoping I would hear a clear example of the "boom-chic-a boom" technique of Luther Perkins, especially on Folsom Prison Blues, but that was not the case. The version here is from the early Sun recording rather than the more dynamic live recordings so the lead guitar was somewhat simplified. For each song on the CD, there is an instrumental track minus the vocals but with all the instruments, and then a second track without the lead guitar. There is also software that can be downloaded which enables you to adjust the pitch and speed. Since Johnny Cash songs are typically keyed a half step above a major chord and requires a capo this can help simplify your practice sessions by adjusting the pitch to the level you prefer. Playing against a mpg-3 file with a backing band will really improve your timing and that is the value of these play along CDs.
