Madeline Hunter
After falling in love with two of Ms. Hunter's books I thought I couldn't go wrong with any other book she wrote since I was so smitten with her stories. I found this book a little hard to get through, personally. It may just be because I'm comparing to her other books, however, this book seemed rather flat. There was a unique plot, a unique hero, and not much of a passionate love story. To be blunt, it simply lacked that fire between the characters where my heart melts at the dialogue and actions between the characters. It seemed that the hero was somewhat resigned that he and Joan could never be, and Joan just kept going back and forth on whether or not he was on her side (against Mortimer). Other than Ms. Hunter simply stating that they were attracted to one another, I felt it should have been more descriptive to the point where I actually feel like there is love. I also disliked Joan's brother and thought that maybe the story would have benefited without him altogether.
In summation, it's well written, but falls flat. I will not be rereading it.
