In a radical departure from the existing literature, Peter Swann and Jas Gill argue that the connections between technological change and market structure cannot be properly understood without an appreciation of the role of strategic vision within firms. They show that the direct measurement of the rate of technological change--as opposed to traditional, indirect measures such as patent counts or R & D expenditure--is essential for understanding change in market structure.
