Luckily I listened to this going to and from work to pass the time rather than reading it, or I'd have put it down halfway through. The characters are two-dimensional and the plot twists almost all predictable. Spoiler Alert: After going through half the book with the villains winning every battle, the bad guys are all swept away by the plague. It gets quite silly after a while. Cunning Gwenda doesn't realize Ralph still has leverage over her even though he can tell her husband he's the real father of her son? Time after time you can see what's coming a mile away, and while the writing is competent it's no better than that--it can't overcome the leaden plot. I read World Without End and remember liking it a lot more. I just can't recommend this one.
