First off, this is an introductory text, which is not clear from the Amazon product description. Starting in I was concerned that this book would be like so-called digital photography books from 5-10 years ago, typically nothing more than relabeled versions of standard photography guides with the word "digital". Weston goes well beyond this, and the specifics of using a DSLR are intertwined within the broader discussion of nature photography, such as "dynamic" range (aka tonal range) and the implications of how the camera allocates tonal levels.



The organization is somewhat novel, arranged around "habits" rather than more traditional categories such composition, camera handling, etc. I found this neither added nor subtracted from the overall discussion.



The production quality is good, and the photographs are printed sufficiently well to convey their points.



The instruction in the book is solid, and even those who have some knowledge of film photography might gain something.
