The Reckoning (Darkest Powers, Book 3)
Kelley Armstrong
I have no idea why I enjoy this series so much but I just do. If you loved the other books in this series than I'm quite positive you'll love The Reckoning. It follows pretty much the same exact formula and plot set up as the previous books: get somewhere safe, find out it's not so safe, escape, get captured, and escape again.
The best part about this book is the romance. And if you don't want to read any spoilers about who she ends up with then you'd best skip this part now. You know it's pretty typical to find in ya literature that the girl always goes on and on about the main character's looks and how hot/beautiful/perfect they are, well not so with this one. When we first meet Derek, he's described as a sort of surly, oily-faced, acne marked guy which is not that attractive sounding. But she falls in love with him anyway. A lot more realistic and refreshing I think.
Their growing powers are awesome and I love how Simon is half-Asian but his race doesn't play a significant role in the book. After all, we're part of a normal fixture of society, I don't get why books always have to portray them as going through some sort of racial hatred, and what not.
The writing is great as usual and the book keeps up the fast paced action and mood from the first so you're never bored. I wish some of the things were answered, ie: Chloe's necklace, but perhaps we have to wait for her new spin off series to get them. Geh! I don't know if I'm excited or annoyed about that. I'll probably read it anyway. Haha.
Nice conclusion for this trilogy.
