I am a former student and great admirer of Prof. White (full disclosure).



He does a great job of providing practical tips for getting better in your career. The fundamental insight being that it's not about you, its about the company first and then about you (depending on what you do for the company). Simple and effective ideas, such as finding a mentor in HR (they know way more than most about career options), reading the local newspaper to understand your employees, networking tips, etc are littered throughout this book.



The only hitch is that the first half of the book is more geared towards perhaps undergraduates and its not until a third of the way in that a typical post mba professional can really get the most out of it.



All in all, definitely a must read before starting your new job/career!
