I read Indispensable by Monday because it was handed to me by a very enthusiastic co-worker. I am typically skeptical of self-improvement or motivational pieces, and fairly critical with all of my reading. I had no particular expectation, and no knowledge of the book's author, and was pleasantly surprised to discover that by the time I finished the book, I had become energized and focused.



The book asserts that the key to corporate career success is to make yourself worth more than you are paid. Larry uses pragmatic examples and good logical flow to convince me I can do this, and provides the basic tools that must be utilized to make it happen. All of that is accomplished with a very quick read, and the concepts are few enough that remembering all of them is a non-issue. Finally, the beginning and ending of the book sandwich a 100-page section that is essentially a list of ideas of where to look for ways to save or make the company more money. These are written in such a way that they can be applied to any business, so the book can be shelved for a period, then brought back down whenever brainstorming for new ways to provide your employer greater value.



All of this results in a book that does not waste the time of any reader who is looking for success in their career as an employee. It got me excited, and it gave me tools to execute. Highly recommended.
