Statistical Mechanics: Theory and Molecular Simulation (Oxford Graduate Texts)

This is an excellent book for Stat Mech students. My current Stat Mech professor recommended it to us in the middle of this semester (next year she'll switch to teaching from it, which she should) because it of its selection of topics that are not found together anywhere else. I found the level challenging (I'm a first-year graduate student in a good department), but there is enough detail (LOTS of detail -- this is one looooong book) to follow the derivations. I especially appreciated the connection between theory and actual computational algorithms; very helpful and brain-stimulating. Also it links basic principles (quantum and classical) and current methods really well. One note: as my prof pointed out, there are a few errors, but the corrections have been posted on Tuckerman's NYU Stat Mech class website and they're easy to follow and not dire. (Which is good because I certainly couldn't have found them.) Anyway, this is a truly great book on a complex topic. I definitely recommend it for future students, and if it's not assigned, then use it as a supplement like I did.
