States of the Great Basin are noted for their opposition to environmental (or any other) regulation. James Hulse's history of environmental plunder in Nevada, and the few recent attempts at protection or alleviation, adds nice detail to this general impression. The next few years will likely see great controversy over the exploitation of solar and other renewable energy resources in the desert Southwest. This book gives fine background for understanding the battles of the coming decade.
