This book includes about 320 species of Australian mammals currently recognised in 2003. Almost all of the paintings in this book come from photographs taken of individual species in their natural settings however in a few cases where no photograph exists the author has used the published type description of the species or other available information to create the painting. The individual species are arranged in alphabetical order using their common name.
