Needlework through History: An Encyclopedia (Handicrafts through World History)
Catherine Amoroso Leslie
I bought this book for my step-mother assuming that it was a colorful and engaging book with both professional color pictures as well as informative text, a collector's item for an advent needle worker. For $55.00 one could easily assume that this would be both a beautiful as well as informative book. What came in the mail more resembled someone's thesis or dissertation, cheaply bound and sold in a hope of paying off some exuberant student loans. The binding is cheap and would not stand up to time, the book is small and all of the photographs, when they occur, are black and white and grainy, looked more like a photocopy. I did not take the time to read any of the text, which is probably very informative, because I was so let down by the quality of this book. This is barely a $15.00 book and by no means comes close to a volume costing $55.00. I guess the fact that this is such a niche market lead the author and publisher to think that it was acceptable to completely rip people off. The lesson of the day is that if a book does not offer photos of the inside pages on Amazon they are probably trying to hide the complete lack of effort and professionalism in creating a worth while product. Please heed my warnings, do not buy this book at all, it is a horrible product and nothing but a complete rip off at the price they are asking for it. Shame on the writer and the publisher!
