The Passionate Programmer challenges programmers to change their work habits and direct their career, rather than just doing what comes along.

I found it to be an excellent book.

Chad Fowler writes in a very conversational style, filled with stories and illustrations. He also offers lots of concrete suggestions, both large and small.

Part III - "Executing" was (and still is) my favorite section.
