The Saint, the Surfer, and the CEO: A Remarkable Story About Living Your Heart's Desires

This book is a work of fiction which blends spiritual values and principles to advocate for a new paradigm in the way you think.

Essentially the values it speaks on behalf of remind us that how we think, will create the circumstances that will enter our lives via experience. It tells us that the Universe is vibrational in nature, and we attract the identical vibration we ourselves put out into the world. If we put out negativity, we get negativity back; if we put our prosperity and love, we see that returned to us in abundance. Really, the choice is ours. What do you have to lose and try it?

Ok, I am a proponent of the wisdom: in other words, I am applying these principles into my life however poorly. My bias, therefore, is intended to advocate for the book.

Sharma is a pretty good writer, and keeps one riveted to the narrative. I read the book in two sittings!

The protagonist in the book is Jack a young man disillusioned with his life and numbed down from chasing ephemeral values of material gain. Like real life events, sometimes the Universe brings us to a threshold moment in our lives offering us a chance to change.

Such is the case for Jack who gets into a severe car crash only to discover his authentic fate while sharing a hospital room with his dying father who he never met previously. The chance(?) encounter sets up the emerging path Jack will take to discover his authentic self: might we call it the true self waiting inside all of us to be born and live the life we were meant to live.

The book unfolds from that point onward having Jack embark on what Joe Campbell called a "heroes journey" by seeking out mentors his father knew previously when he was younger to impart a powerful wisdom.

The three mentors provide Jack with life tools on how to live life impeccably which includes practical knowledge and deep wisdom. Jack who is eager to embrace the values the wisdom point takes up his task with a refreshing curiosity and one of the norms the author is trying to impart by proxy to us the readers: in other words, curiosity is a doorway to personal transformation.

The purpose of the book is to develop this wisdom, in hopes that it will also be taken up by the reader. A point made clear by the author who asks the reader to apply these principles in their lives, but also to share them with others as often as possible. The narrative mirrors the same advice back, as Jack travels the world and begins to intuit the wisdom as a foundational font to be shared with everyone he meets.

I will not go into any further details of the wisdom or where it takes Jack in his quest for the authentic self. I will say that the book is inspiring (at least I found it to be so); this may not be true for everyone but I remain an eternal optimist that we can cultivate our inner landscape and things can bloom again inside our own hearts. But no one can do it for another.

Nevertheless, and I speak from anecdotal experience, my life has begun to change slowly and positively by applying the norms of an ancient wisdom and I think it will do the same for anyone who reads this book.

Of course, only you can decide if this is something of value to you. No one can walk this path for another.

But if you take it up, perhaps we can transform the world into sustainable solutions for all including our Earth Mother.

The consequence is that you may awaken mystery and joy again inside the deepest reaches of your being, and remember what it was like when you were a child surprised by everything. I have had glimmers of this again, and think you might too.
