McBride, who is principal scientist at a national institute for research in New Zealand, focuses on material not generally available elsewhere on using statistic analysis in water management. He does include a basic primer on statistics, but proceeds to specific topics on intervals, hypothesis testing, detection, and calculation methods. In a section on problems and solutions in water management he describes formulating water quality standards and percentiles, including a chapter on microbial matter and human health, and trends, impacts, concordance and detection limits. The appendices include statistical tables and McBride gives answers to the exercises in histext. Annotation c2004 Book News,
