Undeniably, the concept of aromaticity is theory-dependent and, as documented by the contributions to this thematic issue of Chemical Reviews, has numerous definitions, manifestations, and ramifications. The current study adopts an experimental thermochemical perspective in the examination of the aromatic (or nonaromatic or antiaromatic) character of organic compounds.
