Bedeaux (chemistry, Norwegian U. of Science and Technology) and Vlieger, retired from a Dutch company, present the results they have obtained over the years on the optical properties of thin films and rough surfaces. To the 2002 edition, they add here a chapters on the reflection of light by a gyrotropic medium, and a section on self-affine surfaces in the chapter on rough surfaces. Other topics include Maxwell's equations with singular fields, reflection and transmission, spheroidal island films in the low coverage limit, stratified layers, and general linear response theory for surfaces.
