Jean (physical chemistry, U. of Paris-Sud) keeps the fact that organometallic chemistry is by definition interdisciplinary, especially in terms of its relationship to theoretical chemistry as he starts with the most elementary ideas of molecular orbital theory and leads the reader toward an understanding of the electronic structure, the molecular geometry, and, in some cases, the reactivity of transition metal complexes. After setting the scene with basic information, Jean describes the principal ligand fields and interactions, applications, the isolobal analogy, and elements of group theory and their applications. He includes exercise with each chapter (and answers in an appendix) and a list of resources.
