The alphabetical handbook of 250 excipients (40 more than the last edition) features a 2-4 page section for each excipient that includes nonproprietary names, synonyms, chemical name and CAS registry number, empirical formula and molecular weight, structural formula, functional category, applications in pharmaceutical formulation or technology, description, pharmacopeial specifications, typical properties, stability and storage conditions, incompatibilities, method of manufacture, safety, handling precautions, regulatory status, related substances, comments, specific references, general references, and authors. Entries feature technical information but are also accessible to a generally educated reader. Replete with graphs, charts and microscopic photos, entries are written by approximately 100 pharmaceutical scientists from around the world with data taken from a variety of international sources. Since 2000, the book has been available in electronic form, updated annually, as a single-user CD-ROM and network (intranet) version.
