Papers from a September 2003 conference, presented here, address remote sensing, spatially distributed dynamic modeling of land surface processes, and urban dynamics. Contributors in geocomputation, spatial analysis, GIS, and environmental modeling analyze recent developments in assembling geographical information, and discuss the management, benefits, and challenges of modeling dynamic processes in three dimensions. Papers are in sections on remote sensing, physical processes, and human processes. The work collected here illustrates the importance of incorporating interdisciplinary sciences to hone GIS capabilities, share data and representations, and communicate effectively through visualization.
