Drawing heavily from his own courses on order statistics and records, Nevzorov (mathematics and mechanics, St. Petersburg U.) offers introduces the theory of records to students with only standard courses on probability theory and mathematical statistics. He suggests that the methods for analyzing records, the numerous record models, and the various applications he describes could be used by engineers and professionals in other fields that use statistics as well as by mathematicians.
